Senior VHP leader asks government
to withdraw security

K G Suresh in New Delhi

In yet another jolt to ties between the Sangh Parivar and the BJP-led NDA government, an angry VHP leader Giriraj Kishore asked the Union home ministry to withdraw his 'inadequate' personal security cover as it was not in keeping with the threats to his life.

In a strongly-worded letter to Home Secretary Kamal Pande, the VHP senior vice-president complained that the level of security provided to him has now been scaled down to the 'X' category.

Claiming to have received several threatening letters, which he submitted to the officials concerned through his personal security officer, Kishore said, "Under the 'X' category, no security is provided to me during my overnight stay at places outside Delhi."

Besides, he pointed out that no security personnel accompanied him if he happened to travel by plane.

In the recent past, several Pak-trained militants have been arrested in the capital and elsewhere in the country and charged with planning to assassinate senior Sangh Parivar leaders, including Kishore, VHP leader Ashok Singhal and its secretary general Praveen Togadia.
