Date sent: Tue, 3 Dec 1996 01:13:12 -0500

Person Nominated : Atal Behari Vajpayee

Reasons : Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee is undoubtedly the hero of 1996. THE person of 1996 in its real sense. His famous radio-speech on the eve of assuming the office of the Prime Minister of India proved, to those who need proof, what he and the party he represented could do.

In just one comment he opened the eyes of all the Sangh parivar baiters. "All of you say that Vajpayee is good, but the party is bad. How can be fruit be good, if the tree is bad?", he asked!

A truly secular, truly honest and truly nationalistic Atalji is the TRUE PARLIAMENTARIAN we have today.
