So are you tired of NRI roles?
No. Now that I have done a film like Videsh, I will be happy to play an NRI girl again.
I needed a change, and got it with Heaven on Earth. My character, Chand, has redefined me as an actor. I am very proud of me. When the film was screened at the Toronto Film Festival, so many foreigners told me that they loved my work. It felt fantastic.
You played a strong role in Kundan Shah's Kya Kehna, as an unwed mother. But we havn't seen such roles since.
When I came to the film industry, everyone teased me saying that I would have to wear white saris and dance in the rain. So I wanted to do different things rather than what was expected out of me.
Videsh is different in that sense. I did this film to grow as an actor. Sometimes you do films to make a difference to society and Videsh is that kind of film.
