'Amrita looks very middle-class'

What is Victory about?

It is a story about a boy from Jaisalmer, and his journey from a zero to a hero.

Why did you cast Harman Baweja and Amrita Rao?

I didn't want a star. To make a star act like a struggler would look fake. I wanted him to look believable. Experienced actors are polished and do not need to be moulded. With Harman, I could mould him the way I wanted. I like people with imperfections and faults.

Amrita is a woman of substance. She looks very middle-class and good without makeup, like any other girl on the streets.

Did you see Harman's performance in Love Story 2050?

I saw parts of the film. I have been an actor myself so I know what to look for in an actor and I found Vijay Shekawat in Harman. People will be zapped by his performance in the film.

How did you manage to get 22 cricketers in this film?

That, my wife took care off. I knew Praveen Amre, the coach of the Mumbai Ranji trophy team. I sent the script to Brett Lee's manager. He ignored it at first but later when he read it, he was thrilled. He realised that it was an authentic sports film. He came to Mumbai to meet me, and we finalised him. We got the other Australian cricketers through him.

Since I had done many commercials with cricketers, it was easy to get the Indian cricket team together.
