From a chef to an ad filmmaker to a feature filmmaker Ajitpal Mangat has tried on many hats.
His directorial debut Victory is based on India's favourite game cricket, and stars Harman Baweja and Amrita Rao. And it stars 22 of the most popular cricketers.
Ajitpal takes Nithya Ramani through the Victory journey.
Tell us about yourself.
I wanted to be a chef, so joined the Oberoi Hotels. I was offered acting assignments, and I took them up. But I did not enjoy that because I'm an introvert.
A friend suggested ad filmmaking because there was good money there. So I took it up. I did about 60 commercials a year. Then I started producing them too.
I am very fond of writing. As commercials kept happening, I wrote scripts as well. I wrote about 20 scripts. My friends told me to make a film but I wasn't sure then.
How did Victory happen?
I am a cricket and sports fan, just like any other Indian. My sister and I love cricket so much that if India lost a match, we would not eat!
I casually bounced the script of Victory to (producer) Manmohan Shetty and he loved it. I am not a movie buff like other directors, who do a lot of filmi research for their films.
