Apart from being remembered as a titan of the silver screen in Hollywood, Paul Newman is also much remembered for being a wonderful human being.
A philanthropist at heart, he made extensive contributions to charities throughout his acting career and even after. Most notably, however, he will be remembered for an extraordinarily generous act when he proceeded to donate the total profits from his business venture Newman's Own, to charity.
The food production company co-founded in 1982 by Newman himself began to do extremely well and, while it had begun with the production of salad dressing, it soon moved to the production of pasta, popcorn and even wine. As of 2006, it has been estimated that more than $200 million found its way to charity through this organisation alone.
