Isn't there a contradiction in what you said? First, you said your target audience is Tamil. Now you say you want the western audience also to watch your film...
I said my primary target is Tamil audience. But we are submitting the film to festivals also. Once it gets noticed there, the western audience will watch a film made in a language called Tamil.
They may ask why a person of John Shea's calibre -- he's an Emmy-award winning artist who has acted in films like Hussy, Windy City, The Insurgents and Framed -- is acting in a Tamil film?
So why is he acting in a Tamil film?
The process was like this. The casting director is Adrienne stern and this is her 100th film. I could only proceed if she likes the script. I gave her my wish list which included John Shea. She sent the script to him and when I met him, he was totally prepared to meet the director. I met him at a New York restaurant. We spoke about the film for about two hours. I found my Robertson -- that's his character's name. He liked the idea very much and told me that I can do justice to it!
Did he have questions about the language of the film?
As long as they like the story and script, they don't care about anything else. They don't even care whether you distribute the film or not. He gets 50-100 scripts a year and if he likes the script, he acts in it. He chooses his films with great care as he is a director himself. He is going to direct his next film soon. I must say his co-operation level is awesome.
