While Raj Kumar Hirani of the Munna Bhai series' fame is making 3 Idiots, an adaptation of Bhagat's bestseller, Five Point Someone, Atul Agnihotri is ready with Hello, an adaptation of the writer's other bestseller, One Night @ A Call Centre.

Atul talks to Nithya Ramani about the film, and why he may never make more films if Hello does not do well.

You're back after a long time.

During my acting days, in the 1980s and 1990s, there were many senseless films made that didn't give me satisfaction. So I took some time off to set things right. That's when I decided to make Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha. But things weren't under my control and I didn't feel responsible for the film. I was not involved in the post-production or the promotion of the film. The film didn't do well and it was a big failure for me as a director.

After that, it got difficult to get back into films for a while. Hello is my redemption project. A lot of work, theory and lessons of life have gone into making Hello.

Why did you decide on making a film based on a book?

Books make very good cinema. I thought if a book by an Indian writer can attract so much fame, it would be great to make it into a film.
