'Chetan and I were like brothers'

Why did you choose One Night @ A Call Centre?

I like reading books, especially spiritual books. On my visit to a bookstore, I chanced on Chetan Bhagat's One Night @ A Call Centre and found it very interesting.

My daughter wanted to know what the book was all about. I read it and found that it would make a perfect movie. I approached Chetan with the idea. At that point, Ramesh and Rohan Sippy had the rights to the film, as they too wanted to make a film on the book. But they did not, so I grabbed the chance.

It was like a blessing in disguise for Chetan, as he had written two books and had been waiting for three years for someone to make a film on One Night...

Chetan is an evolved man and a film enthusiast. I wanted him to write the script. He has a different sense of humour, which touches the heart. Chetan and I bonded very well. We were like brothers.
