You are a mechanical engineer working with the Princeton University Labs. Films are a different ballgame all together. How did you get attracted to acting in films?
I don't know when it all started but I always wanted to make movies. I moved to California, did a screenwriting diploma and also worked on the film Blind Ambition (directed by Bala Rajasekharuni) as an apprentice in the direction department.
I had plans to write and direct my own movies and was working towards that goal when Ashta Chamma happened. And as a native Telugu speaker my choice would be to do Telugu movies first.
Mohankrishna told me that when he auditioned you, your CD was the benchmark to the audition of others. He said he was amazed at your performance ability. Are you a natural actor or have you undergone any acting classes?
No. That tape was something I created out of boredom. I had the writing experience by then and I wanted to create something funny. I felt that if I could showcase some other facets of myself that would be a well-rounded demo tape of me. I did a Shylock and a few other serious parts along with some farcical comedy very much like Ashta Chamma. I am glad people liked it and it reinforced my belief that anything you do out of passion, pays. And I don’t believe that acting classes can help you become an actor unless you have it in you.
