On the eve of Mohankrishna Indraganti's super hit, Ashta Chamma completing 50 days in the theatres, we meet Nani, the actor who plays the main lead in the Telugu movie.
Nani is totally steeped in films having worked as an assistant director. He's had a stint as a radio jockey too with World Space Radio.
Here, Nani shares his experiences:
You must be very happy with the success of Ashta Chamma now that the movie is completing 50 days…
Frankly I never expected this kind of success. The response has been overwhelming. I can't believe the film has been running for 50 days; I feel it has just released.
You had a dream but unconventional debut. What attracted you to sign the film? It's a completely script-driven film…
I worked as an assistant director first. I never expected I would get a chance to act. My friend Nandu (Nandini Reddy, a budding filmmaker) made me act in a promo for a TV show Zara Masti Zara Dhoom by Ramya Krishna. Mohankrishna saw the tape and I was signed.
I did the film because it was a good entertainer. There was a lot of scope for acting -- variations in expressions and big dialogues. Since it's a comedy, to get the punch, the acting has to be slightly over the top.
I found the story cute and interesting. We knew whoever saw this film would leave the theatre laughing. It's entertaining and different and I thought why not try it out.
