Is the role in Vaaranam Aayiram that of a woman of substance?
Absolutely. I feel fortunate to have got such a role and also to act in a Gowtham film. I had to perform as a growing girl [from 14 to 24]. So, there had to be a lot of changes in the characters body language, outlook, maturity etc.
How did you transform yourself to a teenager?
Thanks to Nalini who did my costume! I had two pigtails, school uniform and stuff like that. It was great going back in years!
Now that we have grown up, it's tough to be a teenager again. The mind of a teenager is so different. It was Gowtham all the way who made me feel like a teenager once again. Though he is the director, he is such a wonderful actor that you have to only watch him to get everything right.
How was Surya as a co-star? Have you seen Kaakha Kaakha?
I have seen the film, and I have been a huge fan of Surya ever since. I still am; in fact even more, after working with him.
When we started working together first, he was very quiet. It was just 'Hi' and 'Bye'. And it was at that time that we had to do romantic scenes. But once the camera started rolling, he is the boy you fall in love with; he is that good. He is so fantastic that he can be intimidating at times.
But as days went by, he started talking. He is such a professional that he never comes late on the sets. He is a lot of fun too.
When you have a co-star like Surya who is a perfectionist, it feels great. He never compromises on a shot. He carries the mood of a particular shot the entire day. He can involve even the least interested actor in the scene. When you have a director like Gowtham and a co-star like Surya, you also give your best.
How was it when the shooting ended?
It was in December 2006 that we started the film. So, for almost two years, we were together. So, it was really very sad to leave those who had become your friends.
