'I am here to act and entertain people'

What is this controversy about you participating in the Hogenakkal protest?

Yes, I did participate in the protest, and I would say that farmers in Tamil Nadu are no different from farmers in Karnataka. Farmers everywhere need water.

Do you feel actors are unnecessarily dragged into politics in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka?

It is unfortunate that film stars get involved in every political issue. Why should we be involved in this? We are here to entertain people. We are not immature people to make comments based on race or region.

Do you consider yourself an Indian first?

Absolutely. It is tough for me because I spent 15 years of my life studying in Ooty. And I know all the south Indian languages. I am here to act and entertain people, and I do not want to be dragged into any unnecessary controversy.

What's this about me doing Tamil cinema or Kannada cinema? Cinema is universal. I may even do a Bengali film.

What's the best compliment you ever got?

There are so many. When Gowtham first saw me, he said I reminded him of Madhubala. I felt great. I did a film with Amitabh Bachchan in Kannada [he had a special appearance] and after the shot, he patted me and said, 'mind blowing'! These are some of the cherished moments that I will never forget.
