Ramya, one of the highest paid actress in Kannada, will for the first time, appear in a film in her real name -- that is, Divya Spandana. The film is Gowtham Vasudeva Menon's Vaaranam Aayiram.
Hereafter, the actress said she will be known as Divya in Tamil and Ramya in Kannada. The protagonist, Surya has three heroines Vaaranam Aayiram, and Divya is the first one in his life. So, we can call her the first heroine of Vaaranam Aayiram.
In this exclusive interview, Divya talks about the film, the director, the hero and the experience of acting in the film.
How did Divya Spandana become Ramya and Divya once again?
I was launched by the Rajkumar family. Parvathamma has introduced so many girls through their banner. As she believes in astrology and numerology, she changed my name to Ramya saying the 'R' would bring a lot of luck to me! Indeed, it did.
Later, I did a film called Kuthu in Tamil and after that, people in Tamil Nadu started calling me Kuthu Ramya and I hated that. Many people laughed at the name!
When I was to do Vaaranam Aayiram with Gowtham Menon, he also didn't like such a prefix to my name. So I am back to Divya, my real name. Above all, there are no other Divya in the film industry.
Did you resent being called Ramya?
At that time, I didn't think that way. And the name gave me a place in the Kannada film industry.
