Actress Lotte Lenya played the part of the dreaded Rosa Klebb, an ex-member of the infamous Russian organisation known as SMERSH (from an acronym of two Russian words meaning 'death to spies') who defects and joins the equally feared terrorist organisation SPECTRE, in From Russia With Love.
Klebb is an extremely memorable villain and is pitted against Bond in an effort to gain control of an extremely important decoding device known as the Lektor machine.
How she meets her end
Given a final chance to obtain the Lektor machine and do away with Bond, Klebb disguises herself as a maid and attempts to steal the machine while Bond is away. When confronted by Bond, she attempts to kill him with a gun but is foiled by Tatiana who has fallen for the agent.
Klebb then resorts to using her secret poisoned knife hidden in the tip of her shoe, but is shot dead in the struggle that follows.
