'When I sang Glassy, I thought it would either be banned or become a hit'

How did Singh Is Kinng happen?

I have worked a lot with Pritam [music director Pritam Chakraborthy]. Singh Is Kinng is a Punjabi film and we are Punjabis. Mika Singh is on the track too. I was doing a lot of tracks with Pritam for Shah Rukh Khan's Indian Premier League team, Knight Riders. He likes my style and I like the way he works. So he offered me a song in Singh is Kinng.

How did Ugly Aur Pagli happen?

I guess people think of me when there is anything related to drinking or drugs or fighting because of Glassy. So Mein talli ho gayi happened. When I sang Glassy, I thought it would either be banned or become a hit.

What do you have to say about people calling you controversial?

I haven't done anything controversial yet. I wonder what they will say if I do!

Jokes apart, I am the way I am. I am loud, I have a big mouth, I love to have fun, I laugh. If people do not like it, what can I do? If I work the whole day, why can't I party in the night? I believe in working hard and partying hard and if anyone has a problem with it, they can deal with it.

Those who talk less are more dangerous. People like me, who talk too much are good at heart. I am not trying to be controversial. If someone is rude to me, I will slap him. I do not think of myself as a superstar, I think of myself as a good artiste. You do not know what other celebrities do. I think I am better off.

What next?

I have just finished a song with [music directors] Sajid-Wajid for a Sanjay Dutt film. I am also doing a track with Ganesh Hegde and recording my own album, which will be coming out later this year.

Tell us more about your album.

I can only tell who will be in it.

Okay...

You will have Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, a track from Bappa Lahiri, Richa Sharma, you will have Mika, Anushka... I am not saying more.

What kind of music can we expect?

My earlier album, Super Woman, had hits like Bombay Deewana, Glassy, Sexy Boy and Look for Me, and hip-hop music.

Who do you think are good singers in the industry today?

There is a lot of talent and good singers in the industry today. I love Sukhwinder Singh, Shreya Goshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Richa Sharma Anushka... But what I would request is not to keep these singers as demo -- make them sing and let them go. Give them a chance. Talent is huge in India. There is enough opportunity for people and enough money for everybody.

There are a lot of rappers coming to Mumbai. The music that they are making is good enough for foreign markets like the UK and US. Even US artists want to come to India. For example, Snoop Dogg in Singh is Kinng.
