British Actress Tilda Swinton, in conversation with The Guardian about her new, extremely well-recieved Michael Clayton, had this to say about director Tony Gilroy: 'He's no slouch.'
Indeed, he isn't. An industrious screenwriter, Tony built his career slowly, despite being the son of the multitalented Frank D Gilroy, a Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, screenwriter, film producer and director.
Deciding to write serious fiction, Tony left home as a teenager and was, briefly, a musician. 'And then I thought, Well this is ridiculous. I'm going to get out of this, and I'll write a screenplay really quick and get rich. And I spent five years tending bar trying to figure it out,' he said in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly.
