Shankar is the director with the Midas touch! Not a single film directed by him has failed at the box office.

Shankar's record at the box office starting from Gentleman to Jeans, Kadhalan, Indian, Boys, Anniyan and Sivaji, is impeccable and unmatched by any other Indian director.

In fact, each new film outdid the earlier one. When Shankar made Anniyan, it was at the time touted as the costliest film ever made in South India (Rs 30 crore) His last film Sivaji was made at Rs 60 crore while his latest Robot, a futuristic film is going to be the costliest in India at a mind boggling Rs 100 crore!

Unlike Mani Ratnam, Shankar, whose second name is opulence, makes pure commercial films.

On the negative side, though, the filmmaker seems to rehash the same stories over and over again.
