South cinema's top directors!

Sathyan Anthikkad (Malayalam)

For Sathyan Anthikkad, churning out hits is a habit. A close look into his career graph reveals the impact that his films have made on the box office.

His association with writer-actor Sreenivasan and hero Mohanlal has almost been bang on target for many years.

His last two films Rasathanthram (with Mohanlal) and Vinodayathra (with Dileep) were big commercial hits.

His movies, like T P Balagopalan M.A., Sanmanassullavarkku Samadhanam, Manassinakkare and Achuvinte Amma among several others, have been major money spinners.

It is his ability to stamp the 'Sathyan formula' on his creations that has worked to his advantage. His heroes are rarely the supermen clones and his stories are rooted deep in the Malayali psyche. His films are earthy and are cherished by viewers and critics alike with equal vigour.

Right now, Sathyan is all set to start his new venture with Mohanlal and Meera Jasmine in the lead.

Sathyan thinks that the family backdrop in his films has not changed much over the years as "only our lifestyles have changed, not our mindsets."

Well, we can't argue that, as he is one filmmaker who has understood the Malayali audience like no one else.
