South cinema's top directors!

Lal Jose (Malayalam)

Lal Jose is the only director from the new generation who has tasted great success and can market his films as only his films can.

He was all set to try for a job in the Gulf when films happened in his life. And he hasn't regretted it since.

A roller coaster ride in the tinsel world with huge hits, and of course a few duds, has shaped his career as a director. He has by now found a place among the directors who can churn out big commercial successes and get the appreciation from critics as well. He comes out with varying themes and a look at his profile would show his versatility.

His maiden venture as a director -- Oru Maravathoor Kanavu featured Mammootty in a rather comic mould. Meesa Madhavan, which had a thief, on the lines of Robin Hood, as the hero became quite a sensation.

Chanthupottu showed Dileep in an effeminate mould and went on to become a blockbuster. Not ready to rest on his laurels, Lal Jose made his next film on a poignant tale of a father, away from the conventional lines. The film, Achanurangatha Veedu, had comedian Salim Kumar playing the lead.

Classmates, which took the viewers down a nostalgic memory lane, got Lal Jose on a winning streak all over again. It continued with Arabikkatha last year, which was received very well by the classes and the masses alike.

Now Lal Jose is all set to repeat the success story with the forthcoming Mulla, with Dileep as the hero.

It is his penchant to experiment with themes without compromising much on the quality that has taken Lal Jose to the heights that he is in, right now.
