A drove of media-members, toting notepads and video cameras, documented Madonna's every movement, and huge crowds formed wherever she stopped.
But collaboration between police and private security kept both the media and masses at bay. Journalists were not permitted to speak with the pop star, and autograph seekers were uniformly rejected.
After taking in the synagogue, Madonna and friends moved on to the Afghan Church, in nearby Navy Nagar, South Mumbai. The 150-year old Church was built by the British, and has been named a heritage structure by the government of India.
