Rana Daggubati belongs to a distinguished lineage yet has been able to carve a niche for himself.
At 23, the grandson of Dr Rama Naidu (who has produced more than 100 films) and the son of producer Suresh Babu, is perhaps the youngest producer to win a National Award.
His film Bommalata -- A Belly full of Dreams (directed by Prakash Kovelamudi) won two national awards -- one for the best Telugu film, and another for best child actor award (Sai Kumar, the main protagonist).
It's a film about a young boy -- a rag-picker, who dreams of going to school. Rana has also made some short films. As Managing Director of Spirit Media, a post-production and animation studio, Rana has been largely instrumental in making it one of the state-of-the-art post-production studios.
For a person who is tremendously inspired by George Lucas (of Star Wars fame), it is not surprising that Rana is fully involved in the technical aspects of filmmaking through Spirit Media.
In this interview, Rana talks about Bommalata... and more. Excerpts:
