Name: Shilpa Shukla (Bindiya)
How has the newfound fame affected you?
Honestly, I'm scared. Fans appreciated my performance as Bindiya and I'm nervous about matching that consistency in other performances. People have certain expectations of me and I don't want to let them down. Also, I'm consciously choosing different characters now, so that people are able to let go of my Bindiya image.
What's next for you?
I start shooting for Junction with Abhay Deol next month. It's a love story with a dark side. I play Pinky, a suicidal alcoholic far removed from Bindiya. Bindiya was aggressive, while Pinky is the sweetest little thing.
For me, as an actor now, the real test begins post Chak De. I have to be careful about the roles I choose as it determines the direction my career will take. Immediately after Chak De released I was only being offered negative roles, which I refused. Now I'm finally getting offers from directors I want to work with.
Besides films, what else have you been up to?
I've been busy with events and openings. I have also received offers for brand endorsements. But things have not yet been finalised.
What do you make of the fans' reaction to you and the film?
It's been crazy! People have been so appreciative of the film and me. But sometimes things do get a bit out of hand. They've been places and events where we've been mobbed.
