Navya's Saira makes it to Cannes

Though her film Maaya Kannadi with Cheran flopped, great things await two-time winning actress Navya Nair.

Her film Saira is the first Indian film to be screened at Cannes on May 19. Saira directed by Dr Biju Kumar won the Kerala state award for the best director and actress. Navya played the role of a television journalist in the film.

Other films to be screened after Saira include Missed Call, Lage Raho Munnabhai and Veyil. On the May 20, Dosra, Guru and Dharam will be screened.

Navya's achievement is that serious filmmakers think of her when they have a role with substance. From Malayalam and Tamil, Navya is moving to Kannada, acting in Gaja with Darshan in the lead.

R G Vijayasarathy got to speak to the actress in Bangalore. Excerpts:

Why aren't you in Cannes?

I wish I was. It is because of past commitments that I could not make it. I am very disappointed.
