From godman to Sivaji's nemesis

For a person with no film background, Suman soon rose up and tried his hand at everything from action, romance, cowboy, rebel, comedy and mythology. He was successful in all the roles.

Acting with other heroes or watching them was a learning experience for him. But he did not ape them, instead he developed his own style.

"I would observe their assets, adapt them and mix them in my style." Generally a junior artiste is in fear of a senior actor when he acts with him. But for Suman, such instances, especially with Rajnikanth and others gave him the scope to learn.

"When you have a co-star like Rajnikanth you learn modulation of dialogue delivery which is a challenge. It is a healthy way of improving oneself."

When an actor gets branded as a hero of a particular genre then he tends to do what the audience wants. Although Suman received the tag of action hero, he did look to better his roles.

"I like to do something new and wanted to be fresh instead of getting stale. So I did not want to get branded."

And he did this by playing the role of Lord Venkateswara in Annamayya albeit after a long time in the industry. "Getting into mythology was surprising. It was a risk to take but my family gave me the courage to go ahead. So I left everything to God and put my heart into the role. Fortunately the audience accepted me."
