Padma Lakshmi's unfulfilled dream
She looked pale and sounded shrill in another big flop, The Mistress of Spices, adapted from Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's much-loved novel. Padma admits she did not like the film, which had Aishwarya Rai in the title role.
Most critics ignored the film, and some like Hollywood Reporter gave it a bad review. But Padma made news at the Toronto International Film Festival. Pictures of her in a low-cut flowing dress were everywhere following the film's premiere party.
"I don't really regret any decisions I have made," she says. "If a film did not work out, I believe I have learned something from the experience."
