'I had to unlearn my 'hero' body language'

You said you got very involved in the film and the character when you saw Dombivli Fast. How was it enacting the role?

It was very difficult. I didn't know how I was going to compete with an actor like Sandeep Kulkarni (who did the original). I feel he did a far better job than me simply because he didn't have to compete with anyone.

Secondly, he looked like a common man. He blended with the crowd.

You are a star because you have a screen presence. You are noticed when you stand in a crowd. And this quality was a disadvantage for me in this film.

On the first day, I felt so depressed that I called my wife and Seeman. I didn't know how I could match up with Sandeep Kulkarini. In my enthusiasm, I had signed the film. Slowly, my fear changed to resilience. We took all the junior artistes who are bigger than me in body structure so that I didn't stand out. I had to unlearn my 'hero' body language. I think it is one of my best performances.
