A sadya of films for Onam

There is a sumptuous sadya (feast) of films that awaits the Malayali audience this Onam.

Mohanlal's Ali Bhai has already hit the theatres and the rest is soon to follow. Among the big heroes, Suresh Gopi may be having a 'double-bonanza' with two of his films ready for release.

Mammootty's commercial film Nasrani, which was expected to take on Mohanlal's Alibhai, has been postponed and now it is his offbeat Ore Kadal that is releasing instead.

A look at the releases in Malayalam during this Onam.

Alibhai

Ali Bhai is for all those people praying for the return of the larger than life version of Mohanlal.

Scripted by T A Shahid and directed by Shaji Kailas, Alibhai narrates the story of the uncrowned king of the poor in Kozhikode market.

The story is based on a person named Ali Bappu, who Shahid has seen right from his childhood days.

"He was someone who has been a real life hero in every sense. The story began from the character named Alibhai, the unquestioned king of the colony. As the times changed, Alibhai and his men age as the world around them become modern. He never went out of the line of truth and could only be beaten with one weapon, love. He is the guard of a huge family, where thousands of characters live," he says.

Navya Nair and Gopika are the heroines. Alibhai has already hit the theatres on August 15 with more than 70 prints being shown across the state.
