We have met Kamal Haasan just once, but we experience him in our hearts and minds every second of the day." Only a fine actor could inspire this sort of devotion.
A group of boys from Bangalore recently decided to get together and form a Kamal community on the social networking site, Orkut. Between 20 and 25 years old, they now claim to have around 40,000 members in their community dedicated to Dr Kamal Haasan. Members gather online to chat about their favourite star, his life and movies. Already popular in Tamil Nadu, fans now want to popularise the community in Karnataka.
Says Karthikeyan, a die hard Kamal fan, "We decided to take this further and do something to increase the popularity of an already hugely popular star. The boys have now decided to distribute free T-shirts to poorer fans of Dr Kamal." Fans, who can afford the T-shirts, can purchase them for Rs 200 each. Funds gathered in this manner are to be used for the welfare of the general public.
