Neerad directs Mammootty in Big B

Mammootty is known for his enthusiasm in promoting new talents in the industry and you have given him a different getup in the movie. How was it directing such a big star in your maiden project?

Mammootty is one of the most talented and experienced actors we have at the moment. He is so talented that he always surpasses the director's expectations and delivers a knockout performance each time.

He is also ready to experiment with his screen image which is evident from his past films. Big B will project him in a completely new light. As far is the encouraging aspect is concerned, he is always eager to promote and support talented youngsters. He is selective and once he is interested in the subject and steps into the film he gives more than 100 per cent to ensure its success.

You have been associated with Ram Gopal Varma, one of Bollywood's most influential directors. Has his style of filmmaking left an impact on yours?

I handled the camera for RGVs Shiva and James, which was produced by him. Being a movie buff, Mani Ratnam and Ram Gopal Varma feature in the list of my favourite Indian directors. I had never served as an Assistant Director under Ram Gopal Varma, so I don't think there is any direct influence.
