On Maati Maay (Marathi)
I was thrilled to do the film. The story (based on Baayen, written by Mahashweta Devi) was powerful and the director Chitra Palekar is passionate about cinema. It's a good role -- about a gravedigger who buries little children. Her father dies and she is forced to take up the profession. When she has a son, things change.
Both Kamli and Maati Maay are about women who seem ordinary, but they have many strengths and break stereotypes. There are a few similarities between the two. Coincidentally, I play the mother in both. Working with Atul Kulkarni was easy.
