Zanjeer
After giving a dozen flops, Amitabh Bachchan had almost given up on acting and was planning to return to his hometown Allahabad when a phone call from director Prakash Mehra changed his fortune.
He was offered a film called Zanjeer.
At a time when financiers shied away from the 'tall, idiot hero', Mehra's film saved Bachchan's career.
In Zanjeer, Vijay (Bachchan) witnesses the murder of his parents, and only remembers a chain around the killer's wrist. The chain haunts him, and he matures beyond his years, and joins the police force.
This was the first film that helped label him as the Angry Young Man, because he barely smiled throughout the movie.
