P C Sreeram: Ready for Bollywood
After having shot 40 per cent of his first Hindi film, Cheeni Kum, he has
picked up enough Hindi to challenge me to do the entire interview in Hindi!
In 2006, Sreeram will be shooting not one, but two Hindi films. Once Cheeni Kum is over, he will move on to Mani Ratnam's next Hindi film (after Guru), starring Aamir Khan.
"Somebody asked me whether Cheeni Kum was about diabetes. It is not! It is a love story with less sugar in it," he chuckles. When debutant director Balki (advertising veteran Balkrishnan) showed him the bound script, he was attracted to it and immediately agreed to do it. "It is a simple story, but the characterisation is very good."
The film talks about the peculiar relationship between a mother and son, played by 95-year old Zohra Sehgal and 64-year old Amitabh Bachchan. The film also stars Tabu.
