P C Sreeram: Ready for Bollywood

P C Sreeram is described as a trailblazer in Indian cinema as far as cinematography is concerned. He might not have cranked his camera for a large number of films, but all his works are extraordinary. To name a few, take his films for Mani Ratnam -- Mouna Raagam, Agni Nachatiram, Geetanjali, Thiruda Thiruda, Alai Paayuthe (left), his National Award-winning work for Nayagan, and Thevar Magan. Surprisingly, the list can include almost all his films.

Those who came after him and trained under him (K V Anad, Thiru, etc) may have made their mark in the Hindi film industry, but P C Sreeram preferred to stick to the language he knows. He agreed to shoot a Telugu film only after he learnt the language. He is also very fastidious about the script, refusing to do a film unless the script excites him.

"I belong to a generation that believed you have to know the language to shoot a film, although I believe film has only one language -- the language of cinema," says the ace cinematographer.
