Gangster
Anurag Bose's blood-and-betrayal saga surprised everyone, including his Murder-fans. A strong, solid film with hard-hitting performances, Gangster won over critics and audiences alike. Rarely in Bollywood is a compelling script matched with skilful execution; audiences got lucky with this one.
Emraan Hashmi donned glasses, kept off the lips and was restrained enough in a film that needed him to draw the crowds. Shiney Ahuja consolidated his well-deserved reputation as one of the most promising leading men, and newcomer Kangna superbly slurred her way to applause. Bose's discreet yet stylised use of Pritam's soundtrack, while allegedly ripped off from Bangla folk music, fit brilliantly.
