The Making Of Omkara

July 13, 2006
It was a big challenge to keep this colossal set standing for over two months, come rain or come hail. Built from scratch on an empty wasteland, the entire set cost ran into couple of crores.

One interesting aside was that the villagers used to visit the set often to check out the materials that were being used to built the house. They would bang on the walls and would go back happily surprised to see the solidity of the structures and houses. It was a different kind of architecture from the regular Maharashtra interiors and they had to be explained that we were building a North Indian village set.

Outside the set, the location shooting in UP with stars, proved to be a ticky drill. For one of the scenes shot in Lucknow University with Viveik, the entire campus had to be covered with flyers of Viveik as he is supposed to play a student body leader. A mini agitation erupted as the university students took umbrage at the posters of Viveik and the crew had to hurriedly disperse. Luckily, they managed to can the required shots in the nick of time.
