The Making Of Omkara

July 13, 2006
Another huge set up, the coronation scene, was shot in a remote temple around Allahabad. The actors were specially flown in by helicopters onto the location and policemen had their hands more than full, keeping the thousands of frenzied fans at bay. It was a happy surprise that perhaps the most visually arresting scene in the film was shot in just under six hours.

The camera team had about a month and a half of preparation time for Omkara. During this phase, Vishal, along with Tassaduq, the cameraman, went around North India, scouring authentic villages as hooting prospects. They ended up making detailed observations about the ambience of villages in and around UP.

The overall colour tonality of the film was worked out. A lot of greens were decided to be used, especially for Langda's character who was supposed to symbolize the Shakespearean green-eyed monster. For Dolly and Omkara's romantic track, subtle red highlights were planned upon to hint at the eventual doom of their relationship.
