Lage Raho Munnabhai
This sequel to Munnabhai MBBS is easily my favourite film of the year. It surpassed my expectations, and I personally prefer Lage Raho Munnabhai to its prequel. Raju Hirani concocts a perfect mixture of humour, sentiment and pathos, with a bit of philosophy thrown in as well.
My favourite part is the Munnabhai/Circuit hug -- what a beautiful moment in the Hindi cinema history of male friendships. The part leading up to it was wonderfully done, with Munnabhai recounting the times where Circuit had taken care of him in his weakest moments. Aw. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi are once again superb in these roles.
And let's not forget Dilip Prabhavalkar, who excels in his humble portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi. Lage Raho Munnabhai just confirms the belief that the best films are made of great moments, and there certainly are plenty of those here. Those 'moments' would be nothing without its very capable supporting cast of Boman Irani, Vidya Balan and Jimmy Shergill. Even Dia Mirza, an actress that I have never particularly warmed to, is wonderfully natural.
Lage Raho Munnabhai proves what a big talent Rajkumar Hirani is. One looks forward to his next!
