Remembering Dilipsaab's Babul
December's big release Baabul hits theatres this Friday. The Ravi Chopra film features some of Bollywood's top actors: Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji, John Abraham and Om Puri.
Baabul explores the relationship between Amitabh and Rani, his daughter-in-law. After Rani loses her husband, Amitabh defies society to get her remarried.
But how many of us know that there was also an old Babul in 1950, directed by S U Sunny? Starring Dilip Kumar, Nargis and Munawar Sultana, the old Babul has nothing in common with the new film but it's name. While all the buzz surrounds the Salman-Rani film today, let's briefly revisit the 1950 classic.
