Mera Saaya (1966)

In Raj Khosla’s Mera Saaya, Sunil Dutt played the ultimate faithful husband, the kind who would figure him high on every woman’s wish list. This hit film sent Dutt’s popularity with women sky-rocketing.

Thakur (Dutt) is a prosperous lawyer who is confronted with a lookalike who claims to be his dead wife (Sadhana in a double role). Thakur fights tooth and nail to preserve the sanctity of his dead wife’s memory but is confronted with a baffling array of evidence that points to this woman being his wife.

Dutt presents a vivid image of grieving love in confrontation with outside forces and his own desire to believe.
