Milan (1967)
Boldly taking on the love story between a widow and a boatman, Milan interwove a reincarnation angle into its story to present a happy ending.
While an effusive, rustic Jamuna (who had a role in the 1989 Mithun Chakraborty movie Prem Pratigyaa) is in love with the village boatman, Dutt, he holds the college-educated Nutan in awe. He ferries her across the turbulent river and teaches her to sing. His devotion, like the river, shows no sign of abating even when Nutan marries and is subsequently widowed. But despite a sacrifice by Jamuna, the couple’s forbidden love is washed away by a tragedy.
Dutt plays a rugged character who is extraordinarily giving and considerate. And he blends the two contrasting characteristics with consummate ease.
