I am a Delhi girl. I settled down in Mumbai only last year. Before that, I would come to Mumbai only for shoots.

As a child, I would attend theatre workshops for children and learn Kathak. I also did a small film on child marriage. But I don't remember much of that. My mother Rita Ganguly was a senior professor at the National School of Drama. She has retired now. My father Keshav Kothari is secretary of the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

I did about 10 plays with (theatre legend) Ebrahim Alkazi. So acting in films was a natural option for me.

When I came to Mumbai, I went to (theatre legend) Satyadev Dubey's home to pay him a courtesy call. He knows my parents well. Model Salim Fatehi had also come to meet him. Salim knew

Laila Khan, Fardeen's sister. He asked me I would like to star in Fardeen's launch film.

I went to Laila's house to give her my pictures. That is when Feroze Khan called me.

I didn't know him as I never watched Hindi films. I never even watched Chitrahaar. I found it unbearable.

I was selected for the movie. And soon, from Rs 160 as pocket money, I suddenly started getting Rs 20,000 a month!
