Raaz [What Lies Beneath]

The biggest hit of 2002, Vikram Bhatt's Raaz borrowed generously from the Harrison Ford-Michelle Pfeiffer starrer What Lies Beneath.

Bipasha Basu plays Dino Morea's estranged wife who has an accident and moves into an old mansion in Ooty to recuperate. But she hears strange voices and a professor (Ashutosh Rana) informs her that the house is haunted by a spirit, who turns out to be her husband's erstwhile lover (played by Malini Sharma). A modest budget, an aggressive publicity campaign and adequate dozes of chills, spills and thrills made Raaz a clear winner.

Vikram Bhatt said, 'I think fear is the purest emotion. All the other emotions rise out of it.'
