Pitaah [A Time To Kill]

John Grisham's gripping novel A Time To Kill was translated on screen featuring Matthew McConaughey and Samuel L Jackson.

When Mahesh Manjrekar lifted the basic plot about a black father from the racially torn Mississippi of the 1960s gunning down his nine-year-old daughter's rapists and then hiring a white lawyer to defend him, he forgot about the engrossing court battle that constitutes a major portion of the Hollywood film. Instead, Sanjay Dutt becomes a gun-totting Rambo who simply takes the law in his own hands and flexes his muscles at will.

Funnily, Pitaah was even touted as the modern-day male version of the classic, Mother India. Mercifully, no one took these claims seriously and the audience dismissed the film.
