The mating dance of the peacock
Pench Tiger Reserve, also known as Mowgli Land as it is the original setting of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, is heaven for bird watchers as it shelters a number of bird species like the Indian Roller, Rufous Treepie, an agile scavenger bird.
Our day was not completely disappointing as it is concluded with the dance of the peacock. Against the common convention which relates the gurgling sky, rumbling thunder and the splashing raindrops with famous peacock dance, the most beautiful of God's creations (and India's national bied) tapped its foot against the backdrop of the sun, turning around in small circles, shimmering and flickering its blue-green plumage comprising of copper, green and blue discs.
When we asked about the broken convention, the guide informed us it was their mating season.
