We asked Get Ahead readers to send in firsthand experiences of supernatural phenomena. Prashant from Mumbai shares why he believes in life after death:
I had just graduated in Commerce and was travelling with my South Indian friend at Vile Parle (east), when we stared talking about planchet and life after death. To clear my doubts, my friend took out this thick notebook and numbered 0 to 9 on plain paper, placing a coin at on spot. He then called his friend's name, who had expired in an accident.
We both kept a finger on the coin and to my amazement that coin moved on the letters 'H' and 'I' and further followed the alphabets of my name. I checked by asking loudly about my birth date and other facts that no one was supposed to know. He named them all correctly.
It was then that I realised that there is life after death and that they need a medium to communicate with us. This was my first experience but we used to keep practising and would pass our time asking several questions to this friend. We continued this even when we used to go as audit teams outside Mumbai.
One day, I was at my friend's house and was in a disturbed mood; I was thinking about an incident that had taken place in our neighbourhood so was not interested in planchet that day.
Suddenly our expired friend called me and said that a known person would like to speak to me urgently. I moved on the table and placed my finger on the stationary coin and my finger started moving very fast.
To my surprise, an man, who had attempted suicide in our neighbourhood and had died of burns the following day, was communicating with me saying that he was murdered by his own brother and supported by his wife. I was shocked as he was a well known personalityin the neighbourhood.
This is a true story which had taken place nearly 30 years ago. I cannot name this man as his brothers are still alive. Although the man's son was my friend, I could not tell him the truth to maintain peace in their joint family. And besides, who would have believed me if I had uttered this without proof.
Today, I have lost touch with my South Indian friend and never dealt again in planchet since.
