'18 kilos dropped in 7 months'

August 2, 2007
Srinivas Dasyam, a 26-year-old senior research associate, shares his weight loss programme:

I never imagined food without a couple of non-veg dishes. Being in the software stream, I never got an opportunity to eat at the right time and I used to personally prefer junk food rather than healthy things.

I joined my job in early 2004 weighing 67 kilos for my 5'7" height, which was apt. But over the next couple of years, I was addicted to fried, oily and junk food and my weight jumpde up to 80.8 kilos at my heaviest.

Till last February I was overweight. Suddenly on one fine day, I decided to lose the extra weight. To be frank, my friends started laughing at me and I usually joined them. But slowly I began implementing my to-do list.

Daily routine:
Morning walk for a minimum of 20 minutes on the treadmill
Light weights and abs exercises for 20 minutes
Aerobics (daily) for half an hour
Limited usage of vehicle. I got used to enjoying long walks. I used to walk from my home to gym, which is two kilometers away at least twice in a five-day routine. The same while coming back home too.

Diet
Morning: 1 glass of milk followed by 1 cup of tea/ coffee
Lunch: 4 small rotis, 1 cup of curry or dal, plenty of water
Evening: 1 cup of coffee/ tea
Night: 1 medium cup of rice, 1 small cup of curry, 1 small cup of curd, 1 fruit

The only thing that helped me reduce was my strong desire to lose weight. I used to check my weight once in a week, and even one ounce of weight loss used to give me a ton of confidence.

After eight months, I touched my lowest ever figure of 62.8 kilos (which was my actual weight 10 years back).

Now, on my friend's suggestion I put on two kilos and now at 64.9, I feel quite good.

This has been my experience and the diet and nature of workout may vary from person to person. Please don't follow as it is, but do get a little inspiration from this whole episode and plan as per your convenience.

Here in my office, I feel happy to say that at least 10 people got inspired from my work out and they also started following as per their need and convenience.
