Sanjeev Mulchandani, fashion designer to Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, shares his concepts on style.

Defining style

Sanjeev-speak: Style is an extremely personal endeavour. I believe each one has to open their eyes to what's available and make informed choices for themselves. It's a process of hit and miss, resulting in the development of that elusive 'something' called personal style.

Fine-tune your fashion senses

Sanjeev-speak: When it comes to improving one's fashion sense, while consulting magazines and looking at celebrities helps, it is most important to rely on one's mirror. The mirror never lies and, if you follow the diktats spelt out by your mirror in all honesty, it will help hone your style sense. This way, you are unlikely to go wrong when it comes to style.

Fashion no-no

Sanjeev-speak: Indian women don't understand the use and application of lycra in clothing -- they believe that wearing fitted lycra garments gives them a snug and well-defined (read slim) look. What they don't realise is that, on donning that Lycra corset top, pant or skirt, every unsightly bump and contour on their bodies is revealed! Also, the inclusion of lycra in wedding apparel like lehenga-cholis is a no-no.
