Marvie Beck, make-up stylist to the bevy of beauties, says there are four make-up looks that are always in style. Stylists tweak these each season to come up with a fresh new interpretation.

Natural beauty

Marvie-speak: This look comprises of a fresh and natural glow, tempered with well-defined eye brows. Picture the healthy colour you have as you step out of the gym and try to replicate it.

Lightly apply some shine or shimmer to the eyelids, keeping the lips natural with a peachy or soft pink gloss.

Define the eye brows with a medium brown eye browpencil (avoid black; it gives a very stark look), curl your lashes with an eye lash curler and slick some black mascara over them for a wide-eyed youthful look. To finish, pull your hair back into a ponytail.

The nightclub or diva look

Marvie-speak: This look is defined by smoky black eyes, trimmed with shimmer or iridescent glitter on the lids. Use black kajal or coal coloured eye shadow to line your lashes (both upper and lower).

Smudge the line to create the soft smoky effect. Dab on some shimmering eye shadow or, for a dramatic, three-dimensional effect, use iridescent eye colours (bright colours).

Keep the lips a medium tone (neither too deep nor too pale), depending on what colours you can carry off.

Eastern or Oriental look

Marvie-speak: This look draws its inspiration from mid-eastern and Oriental flavours and blends them together to form an intriguing, alluring mix.

Mehendi, crystals, piercing (like nose rings) and tattoos take on a contemporary twist and are added to a base make-up comprising of kohl-lined eyes (on the lower lid only) and deep lip colour.

The bronzed look

Marvie-speak: The basic feature of this look involves accepting your own skin tone and going a shade darker. The inspiration is the tanned look of the seventies and the eighties, which has returned in full glory.

The bronzed effect can be easily achieved with 'bronzers' or 'bronzing creams' that add a touch of golden or bronze shimmer to the skin, making it appear a shade or two deeper. The final effect is very sultry and sexy. Wear eye-shadows in colours like turquoise. Colour the lips in light to medium earthy hue.
