Aishwarya

This Upendra-Deepika Padukone-starrer was not a statewide hit like the other films on this list, but its collection in major territories like Bangalore and Mysore was very commendable.

According to the film's director Indrajith Lankesh, who distributed the film in major areas like Bangalore, Tumkur and Kolar districts, the film has collected around Rs. 2.70 crore gross in the area, and after deducting expenses he gained around Rs 1.80 crore, thus recovering the investment and even managing to return around Rs. 25 lakh to the film's producers.

Aishwarya introduced Bangalore-based model and actress Deepika Padukone to the Kannada industry. The initial collections were impressive, and it was expected that the film would end the drought the industry was suffering at the time.

It however began sliding after the fourth week; thanks at least in part to the release of films like Jothe Jotheyalli and Sirivantha.

The film's initial did boost Upendra, especially as his two previous films had mediocre runs. Interestingly, one of the major attractions of the film was the male lead's new hair style; the well-composed songs of music director Rajesh Ramanath also helped give the film at the box office. Deepika worked well with the younger sections of the audience, who were bowled over by her smile and her glamour.
